World-Class Tennis Returns to Los Cabos
Quivira owners who happen to be avid tennis fans, take note: the sixth edition of the ATP tournament, or Los Cabos Open, will return this summer, with singles and doubles matches scheduled from August 1 – 6.
The tournament, which draws top-class players from around the world, will be played at the destination’s newest venue, Cabo Sports Complex (CSC), which was inaugurated last year but had no fans due to Covid restrictions. The competition is part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour. Entertaining millions of international fans each year, ATP tournaments showcase the world’s greatest tennis players in breathtaking locations with the mission to inspire the next generation of fans and players.
Top professionals who have committed to compete in this year’s tournament include the Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 2), the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime (No. 9) and Cameron Norrie (No. 10), a British pro who’s the defending champion.
“We are very excited to have these great players; it is very rare, perhaps even historic, to have three top 10 players in a 250 tournament,” said tournament director José Antonio Fernández. “It will be a grand spectacle for the audience to see someone of Daniil Medvedev’s caliber on the court.”
Medvedev, the reigning U.S. Open champion, has amassed 13 ATP titles in his career and was a finalist at this year’s Australian Open. He also attended the Mexican Tennis Open in Acapulco this past February and was captivated by the warm reception of the Mexican crowd. Only 10 points away from regaining the top spot in the rankings, Medvedev, 26, is a good bet to win the 2022 Los Cabos Open. He’s a must-see at this year’s event.
As a venue, the Cabo Sports Complex is a multifunctional arena capable of hosting sports and entertainment events. Through its open spaces, this magnificent complex communes with the natural elements of Los Cabos. A spacious facility, the CSC has seating for 3,500 in the main stadium, room for more than 1,500 spectators in the grandstand, and three courts that can be adapted to accommodate an additional 400 attendees.
Due to remaining health contingency protocols, this year’s Open will be held under ATP Safety Program rules following a plan developed by tournament organizers in alliance with the ATP and local authorities.
Tickets are available for the Full Series (August 1 – 6), the Monday – Wednesday Series (August 1 – 3), and the Weekend Series (August 4 – 6). Individual tickets for the Los Cabos Open are also available. Prices range from $25 USD to $152 USD. Details: https://abiertoloscabos.com/en/home/
