Tricentennial Celebration of the Traditional Festival of San Jose del Cabo
But there’s another side to Cabo worth exploring this month, especially for visitors and residents seeking an authentically Mexican experience.
The annual festival honoring St. Joseph, the patron saint of San José del Cabo, will be held from March 15 – 22. The weeklong celebration of the city’s rich history, which dates to the original Jesuit mission established in 1730, includes events both sacred (a mass in honor of St. Joseph) and secular (the crowning of a festival queen).
Cabo being Cabo, there will be refreshments and Mexican cuisine for sale during the festival plus live music, colorful parades and traditional dances. Adding to the occasion is the fact that 2025 marks the tricentennial of the Traditional Festival of San José del Cabo. Most of the events and festivities will take place in and around Plaza Antonio Mijares, the town square opposite San Jose’s landmark church.
Carlos Castro, Director General of Social Development in San Jose del Cabo, said the festival will offer cultural, religious, artistic and sports performances, with amusements for children and livestock exhibitions also planned.
If you want to pinpoint the best days to attend the Traditional Festival of San Jose del Cabo, mark March 19 and 20 on your calendar. March 19 is the actual feast date of St. Joseph, while March 20 is a Thursday, which means Art Walk is on from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The streets of San Jose’s historic downtown Art District behind Plaza Antonio Mijares are closed to vehicular traffic during this time, turning the town into a lively pedestrian thoroughfare. In addition to the festival’s attractions, visitors can check out an array of art galleries, artisan shops and enticing new restaurants set along narrow cobblestone streets.
A traditional, time-honored festival plus Art Walk in charming San Jose del Cabo equals an unbeatable combination.
