Best Places for Breakfast in Los Cabos
Breakfast is often called & the most important meal of the day', and for good reason. Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day. It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost energy levels and alertness while providing other essential nutrients required for good health. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done--or simply enjoy an active lifestyle. Happily, Los Cabos brims with excellent breakfast choices to “break” your overnight fasting period. Here’s our top five.
The Bistro. This family-style restaurant at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, the first 24-hour cafe in Cabo San Lucas, offers casual dining plus a wide-ranging breakfast menu designed to please all palates. Start with a seasonal fruit platter and Mexican sweet bread basket before moving on to the specialty omelets and egg burritos, notably the Popeye Burrito: Scrambled eggs with fresh baby spinach, bacon and cheese, served in a flour tortilla. Also available are Chilaquiles, a famed hangover cure. These are served on slightly spicy red or green sauce, onions, cream, fresh regional cheese, accompanied with refried beans and guacamole. Celebrating a special morning? Cap off breakfast at The Bistro with a “Pueblo Bonito” Coffee: Coffee, Kahlua and vanilla ice cream.
Casasola Café. A popular breakfast and brunch spot in Cabo San Lucas with a bamboo-shaded courtyard, Casasola features creative takes on a variety of dishes. Chef’s specialties start with Huevos Florentinos: Poached eggs served on baguette bread, roasted tomatoes, arugula and organic spinach, dressed with a blue cheese sauce, garnish of spring salad with feta cheese and vinaigrette dressing. Just as
good are the Benedictinos: Poached eggs on baguette bread with butter, topped with hollandaise sauce, served with bacon, smoked ham and chives, garnish as above. Also highly recommended are the Machaca Burritos: Flour tortillas with Baja regional sundry shredded beef, served with beans and canela cheese. In addition to an excellent array of coffees and chair lattes, Casasola offers seven different types of smoothies and seven different types of milkshakes.
The Market at Quivira – 1950s Diner. Accented by red-and-chrome décor and cozy booths, this classic retro diner from a bygone era occupies its own time warp setting apart from the open-floor concept of The Market. While known for its burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes, breakfast at the 1950s Diner is a special experience. Opt for the pancakes, arguably the finest flapjacks in the entire resort complex. For a completely unique taste experience, order the Benedict Eggs
Kentucky Chicken: homemade English muffin, poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on crispy chicken breast accompanied by country potato, lettuce, and xnipec onion sauce.
The Cabo Bakery. Tucked off the main drag in Cabo San Lucas opposite the City Club shopping complex, this well-established hideaway opened 10 years ago. Chris Sands, a USA Today contributor and local denizen, believes The Cabo Bakery is the best bakery in town, serving “superb coffee and pastries.” The cinnamon rolls, for example, are out of this world. The German-style brezel is also worth sampling (owner Markus Saeffert is originally from Stuttgart). In the mood for a Mediterranean-style breakfast? According to Sands, "Try the freshly baked focaccia bread with tomato pressed in fresh herbs and infused with extra virgin olive oil."
Mama’s Royal Café. Situated in downtown Cabo San Lucas, this local institution boasts an extensive breakfast menu, super-fresh juices, and a live guitarist. Patronized by visitors and locals alike, Mama’s is known for its stuffed French
toast (it's stuffed with cream cheese, topped with fruit and berries, and flambéed in orange liqueur), but there are dozens of egg dishes from which to choose, from veggie frittatas and custom omelets to Huevos Divorciados: two huevos rancheros with ham, one with green sauce, one with red. Vegan and gluten-free entrees are also available.
