ABC Art Baja Festival Underway

Art Baja, the leading cultural festival in Baja California, has scheduled a series of events in San Jose del Cabo, Todos Santos, La Paz, Tijuana and Ensenada through May 5.

The festival aims to promote art and culture in towns and cities throughout Baja California by focusing on cultural collaboration at the local level. Partnerships and alliances strengthen the concept of community among artists, gallerists, collectors, designers, musicians, photographers, local establishments and the general public. This is the first edition of ABC Art Baja California.

According to the festival’s website, “At ABC we seek to reinforce the idea of community by promoting broad projects where synergies are generated between local establishments as well as artists and galleries from other states or countries.” These collaborations may be presentations of artists in a space; or art, design, photo projects or any other type of imaginative work.

LOCAL, a key part of the ABC Art Baja Festival, seeks to encourage the development and promotion of the local artistic community by celebrating its culture and talent. 

The festival’s main goal is to create a constant flow of visitors, residents and general public to support the cultural wellspring of each region and enhance the scope of local participation. Maps will be distributed with information on activities and points of cultural and social interest in each host town and city.

Any art gallery, artist studio, hotel, music space, pop-up, foundation, bar or restaurant can participate in the festival's calendar of activities. 

As part of its programming during the festival, each space can organize different activities for greater visibility, including special dinners, exhibitions, concerts, performances, workshops, guided talks, or tours with the goal of forging alliances among creative talents.

A special feature of the festival is “Patio by ZsONAMACO.” This is an outdoor exhibition featuring a variety of art installations, outdoor sculptures, and ephemeral works to be curated at the beautiful gardens of Jardín Escultérico Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo. The works will be on exhibition and for sale.

Institutional partners of ABC Art Baja Festival include BCSnosUNE (Gobierno de Baja California Sur), Baja California (Gobierno del Estado), and the Los Cabos Tourism Board. The festival’s official sponsors are Tequila 1800, Oystera (The Oyster Bar), Puerto Los Cabos (Jardín Escultérico), and Palm Foundation.
